Up and down Fan Fawr

We have had a lovely day. Starting with a full breakfast, the sort you only eat when you are away. Then we set off to Fan Fawr (Welsh for big peak) to do a "moderate" walk (according to the book). Fan Fawr is a mountain in the Fforest Fawr section of the Brecon Beacons National Park and is 2,408 ft high. The hill is drained to the west by streams flowing into the Afon Dringarth, this dammed to the west to form Ystradfellte Reservoir.
The route gave provided us with a chance to cross streams and marshy/boggy ground and we were thankful it had not rained too hard recently. The (relatively) easy march up by the edge of the forest on one side of the reservoir and the up the mountain gave us opportunities to admire the views and me to snap away, otherwise known as having a rest.
We had been going for over an hour and half before we met anyone else. Up to then a few people on the hilltop above and that was all. Considering the number of cars in the car park we were surprised. Somewhat surprisingly given neither of us is really fit we did it in about the time suggested by the guide book.
This is taken as we made our way back down looking back in the direction of Brecon. To me it sums up the beauty of the area. Bathed in sun adds to the appeal.
Having learned from last night that we needed to book a table today we are off to what until last night was our favourite place for food The Star Inn at Talybont-on-Usk.
