Clock at Charing Cross Station

There is not that much left of the original Charing Cross Station in London after its redevelopment in 1990.

There was originally an arched roof dating from the original station of 1864 for the South Eastern Railway. This collapsed in 1906 and was replaced by a utilitarian structure, replaced in its turn by the 1990 development.

The clock is however a magnificent survival of the South Eastern and Chatham Railway.

Below the clock (and just about visible in this picture) is plaque commemorating the arrival in London of President Woodrow Wilson on Boxing Day 1918, just after the Armistice and en route to the Versailles Peace Conference. He was welcomed by King George V.
