Shooting cats

I had the privilege of spending a day at the Cats Survival Trust's centre near Welwyn Garden City. The weather had changed dramatically so it was very cold but at least we didn't have to contend with sunlight and deep shadows. The Trust looks after big cats that are abandoned in the UK and has a number of initiatives overseas to ensure the habitat of the cats survives. Although the centre isn't open to the public, members of the trust can visit by appointment and the man behind the scheme, Terry Moore, provided plenty of hot drinks and hot food at lunchtime.
The enclosures have dark metal mesh and it's easy to put the lens against it to avoid the mesh appearing in the photographs; care has to be taken, obviously, as these are not domestic moggies. The pumas, snow leopards, Pallas cat and lynx proved the most successful, and there were a couple of meerkats as well. An excellent day.
