Gillipaw's Journal

The House of Dun

A Georgian house, built in 1730 by William Adam. It overlooks the Montrose Basin between Dundee and Aberdeen on the East Coast of Scotland. It has particularly fine plaster work, which has been carefully restored, and fine Staffordshire china displays, created specially for the Erskine-Kennedy family.

We spent the afternoon here, and enjoyed one of the best National Trust tours we have ever had. A very enthusiastic guide, who got it just right. Two of the Trust's art collections are exhibited here, so a real treat to see paintings by Peploe and Eardley.

I particularly enjoyed walking around the gardens, and really liked the detail on a series of sandstone planters, so chose one of these to share with you.
