Foindle School

Following on again from the school theme. This is the first school that was built between Foindle and Tarbet. It half way between the two villages.and the children walked over the hills. The school sits at the edge of Loch nam Brac. You cannot see it from the road as it is on the far side of the loch. One story was told that the father of a little girl lade stones accross the very wet bits so that his daughter would not get here feet wet. He also made a pile of peats near the school so that she would not have to carry it all the way from home. The school was one room and the teacher lived there too. I cannot imagine what like it was for the children in the winter walking about a mile over the hills to the school arriving soaking wet with just a fire to dry the coats. It was during the 1800's and it had a thatched roof. The school was burnt down and the children then went to the Whitehouse.

A visit to Ullapool for food. Weather was dry in the morning but after we came home at 4 0'clock it started to snow. Hope it is not lying in the morning.
