Beauly Priory

Guess what! The first thing you find out about this Scottish ruin is that Mary, Queen of Scots once visited in it. In 1564. In fact, it was - or so the story goes - her visit that gave the town of Beauly its name. She looked at the priory and pronounced it "un beau lieu".

It was a weird day weather-wise. We had intended to visit the Black Isle Wildlife Park but there was a mild blizzard going on when we got there. Beauly was Plan B.
