a lack of focus

Waterloo International

With over 88,000,000 passengers a year travelling through Waterloo station, every platform is at full capacity. The peak trains are ever so crowded.

For 13 years Waterloo also included the Eurostar terminal but this closed in 2007. At an initial cost of £135,000,000 and with maintenance costs exceeding £4,000,000 while it has been closed, it is a mystery to me how the 'legacy' planning failed so badly.

It will be another couple of years before the additional Eurostar platforms can be integrated with the main station and used in a meaningful way to offer better train service to Waterloo train passengers.

Some day, hey? Fingers crossed.
