Two fire walking cultures

The Fiji islanders are famous firewalkers: they walk over hot stones.

Fiji is also home to a large population of people whose ancestors came from India. They too have a tradition of fire-walking, but across hot wood embers rather than hot stones. The Indo-Fijians men in the photograph are preparing themselves for the walk.
