Bank Holiday Gardening

I've spent quite a bit of time in the garden this long weekend. One of the jobs I tackled today was weeding and edging the vegetable patch beside our house.

Last year, this tiny patch produced small crops of broad beans and potatoes. We're a long way from aiming to be self-sufficient in anything, but it is an enjoyable pastime and we get the pleasure of eating vegetables we have grown ourselves for a week or so in the autumn!

This year, we've allocated some of the area to some small-scale soft fruit growing. The bushy plant toward the front of the plot is 'Joan J', from whom we hope to be harvesting some juicy raspberries toward the end of the summer.
