Durham academia

Iain's aunt sadly died earlier this year and we were in the Durham area for the funeral and memorial service. We had a few spare hours on the Saturday morning so went into Durham city for a quick look around. As we arrived at the Cathedral on Palace Green, a service had just finished, something to do with St Chad's Day and so involving St Chad's College. There were also a lot of students dressed in green around, waving oars and wearing race numbers - I think there had been a run of some sort, but why the oars? It took me back all those years to my time as an undergraduate at Durham University.
