Felled

Fifty trees are felled,
some uprooted, from the lawn:
how light in my hand.

Every spring our lawn is riddled with these seedlings that parachute down from a huge tree that looms over our hedge. They are a menace as they root so easily. The seeds are very like sycamore seeds but the tree looks different. Perhaps it's a cousin of the sycamore?

Incidentally, this handful came from about one square foot of grass, so imagine the weeding task even on our smallish lawn.
