designed by a committee?

This plant intrigues me. Look at the many things that are going on in a single bloom! Each stalk has a little orange blossom surrounded by leaves that is dwarfed by a set of three buds surrounding a dangly berry sort of thing. Wow, is this a picture of diversity in unity, or just a whole lot of compromise?
