Enjoyed a day back 'home' in Manchester. It's a pity it's so far away because it's always a treat to visit the place again.

It turned out to be a memorable day because I as able to meet two football heroes - former Manchester City stars Paul Lake and Steve Redmond - at the club store in the city centre.

I've just finished reading Lake's moving autobiography I'm Not Really Here and it was great to be able to tell him to his face what a terrific piece of writing it is.

Redmond's riposte was, 'Shame it's not your own work, Paul!'

Earlier, I visited Manchester Art Gallery to see a fascinating exhibition of photography by Roger Ballen. Some quite haunting images that certainly made you think.
