Meanderings Through Life

Building an Iron Age Rounhouse

Today we volunteered to help finish the walls of an Iron Age Roundhouse being built at Heeley City Farm in Sheffield. It was gloriously messy, muddy fun!

The building had been further along, but some fools had tried to set fire to the place. Some of the beams at the back of the house are still charred, but sturdy. The farm as a history of 'people' doing damage. Just a few weeks ago a couple of ducks were stolen and some chickens drowned.

Some people just don't care.

We love the place. Even my occasional community archaeology volunteering is based there.

And next time they need daubing volunteers, we'll be there.
