Every photo tells a story

British Leyland.

Can anyone remember this blast from the past. B.L. did their bit for engineering, and re-invented the wheel, making it more oval for the steering wheel for the Austin Allegro. This is meant to be done in a very tongue in cheek way. I regret not taking up two offers to be an aprentice with them, and ended up working much later as a machinist there on a second end lathe at North Works. My dad worked there for over twenty years and always sang the praises of leyland Trucks. They offered a totally bespoke service. Whatever chassis, whatever wheel configuration, whatever gearbox and whatever engine. No two consecutive vehicles on the assembly line were the same, and a truck would follow a bus and vice versa. I spotted this on the car-boot today, and for 10p, I had to have it.
