Crane?

A quick visit to Sadddle Creek this afternoon, and the first thing I came across was two of these guys.

I'm getting good at approaching them without spooking them and these two let me get really close.

But what are they? They have the same appearance, size, and behaviour as a Heron. but what about the red markings on the head? I suspect it may be a Sandhill Crane but not sure. Beautiful bird anyway.
