St. Peter?s Church

I cycled out of town by a different route today, which took me to a lovely little village called Barnburgh. The church here is lovely in the sun, as the stone is a very light colour whcih seems to glow when the sunlight hits it.

Apparently there's a local legend surrounding this church, whereby a local nobleman was set set upon by a lynx. The nobleman was thrown from his horse and was pursued for a mile to the door of the church. The nobleman died of wounds inflicted by the cat, which was crushed as he fell. Both therefore killed each other. However, it seems unlikely, as the attributed nobleman lived at a time when the lynx was already extinct in the area. An interesting story though, I thought.
