Toronto

Toronto means "meeting place" from the Huron toronton. However, locals call it Trawna, which means "the big smoke" (I should have saved this blip for Friday, 4/20, marijuana day in Canada and elsewhere). It has also been called Hogtown, after an area in west Toronto where the abattoirs were (now condos - can you imagine?), and also "Toronto le pur" by Quebecois who used to deride TO's puritanical drinking laws, especially on Sundays.

Coincidentally, as I was photographing this cigar store Indian, two first-nations (i.e. Indian or aboriginal) people walked by. Wonder what they make of their wooden simulacrum?
