Arboretum Place - John Hope Gateway

The John Hope Gateway building is at the West entrance to the Royal Botanical Garden Edinburgh.

Professor John Hope, RBGE's Regius Keeper from 1761-1786, a leading botanist and teacher of his time was also responsible for unifying the Gardens at one site on Leith Walk in 1763.

The Gardens were moved to their current location at Inverleith in 1820 as the growth of the city had encroached on the Leith Walk Gardens.
