L is for ... London; red in tooth and claw!

Today I was up early to catch the train down to London to meet up with a couple of Twitter friends. We were headed for the Big London Birdwatch at the Wetlands Centre near Barnes.

The journey passed without incident thank goodness which meant we had plenty of time to walk from Barnes station. Suddenly something flew across the road and landed in the verge just in front of us, before taking off and heading back to a tree over the road. Turned out to be a male Kestrel with what I think is a Bank Vole. Just shows that wildlife thrives in all kinds of places.

It was unlikely that the rest of the day was going to top that excitement but we had a good day. The Wetlands Centre is without doubt a fabulous amenity right in the middle of London with aircraft continuously passing overhead. We had a bit of an explore and were pleased to meet up again with Mike Dilger.

A long day but worth the effort.
