Our Back Yard

Here's where I work my fingers to the bone. All our recent weeding has highlighted joyous bloom: a full palette of irises, bright orange poppies, an old pink climbing rose that is intent on leveling the wooden arbor, and miscellaneous other things I couldn't name if I tried. We're also getting the vegetable beds ready for the summer crop of tomatoes, squash and beans; it's still too cold at night to rush into planting, in spite of yesterday's 90 degree weather. Today it's cold, damp and foggy. I'm glad I'm not a little tomato plant. As a person I am free to come inside and curl up with a good book, which right now happens to be The Man Who Lives With Wolves.

You can count the flowers if you enlarge the photo...
