Escapees

Our drakes have discovered the hole under the gate.

They've never wandered off before but are now making the most of it. They spent most of the day in the field next door messing about in a big muddy puddle.

We lost the last of the ducks over the winter and now only have the two drakes. So I'm wondering if they are strutting their stuff hoping to attract a couple of the local wildfowl population. They are certainly looking rather dashing in their glossy black and green plumage but I don't fancy their chances much.

Later I spotted them coming back from over the hill and far away. No idea how far they had been but the lure of food is hard to resist. The boys rounded them up and blocked up the hole in the gate. It'll be interesting to see if they can find their way out again.
