Anaerobic Digester to Validate = My Work Today.

Successful visit to an Anaerobic Digestion plant in central Manchester. The two large tank like buildings towards the middle and right are the 2 anaerobic digesters with the gas collector on the far left.
This plant treats black bin waste to produce gas for energy and digestate which may eventually be used on farm land. I am there to make sure that the Animal By-Product Regs are followed to the letter; that the hygienisation plant treats the material to 57 degrees centigrade for at least 5 hours and that the digestate is tested free for Salmonella plus that it stays in the digestate maturation area until at least 18 days after hygienisation.
Today the plant passed into the positive release stage where the digestate can be spread on non agricultural land after treatment, maturation and negative Salmonella results.
