Eiders on the rocks

These guys were doing their best to impress with their soothing cooing courtship calls, this one lucky lady seemed to have more than her fair share of attention.

I was at Ruddon's Point for a final visit this trip in search of the elusive Surf Scoter. Lots of Common and a few Velvet Scoters, but no sign of a Surf Scoter. A very pleasant morning though with the Eiders calling and a visit from a Whimbrel features in RCB's journal. It had flown in accompanied by a Curlew which was nice from an identification point of view with its smaller size making it obviously different to the Whaup.

On the way back, popped in to RSPB Loch Leven. The Ross's Goose was still providing distant views on St Serf's Island, but seemingly the Blue-winged Teal that we'd seen yesterday hadn't been seen today. I wonder where he'll turn up next.
