on the way home

Its been a long day, the culmination of a long and intense week. But it all went beautifully, a humanist ceremony amid a gathering of good friends, then the drive to the crematorium and a final goodbye.
After that I departed the proceedings in order to spend the evening with my grandson, celebrating his twelfth birthday with presents and green cup cakes with candles on.
I took this on the drive home through a golden evening. Its soft focus reflects the weariness I am feeling now.
Fingers crossed for a quiet day at home tomorrow.
