Patrona

Apart from the fine XIIc church, Serinya has one other claim to fame, and that is the complex of caves that lie about a kilometre east of the village. Dating from the Neolithic period these cave dwellings have proved rich in archaeological remains and provided a valuable insight into the progress of early hunter gatherers.

Near the caves is a curious bridge like structure, rumoured to be of Roman origin which is actually an aqueduct, it stands about 1.5 metres tall and the arches are low so you have to stoop to pass under it. It is some 25-30 metres in length with small towers, (obviously not Roman) at each end.

The water channel is roofed over in stone and it is all in all an intriguing relic. Curiosity awakened, I will do research and report back.
