Drumming on the moon

A detail from the front of the Kaaitheater in the centre of Brussels. The building was originally named the Lunatheater and was built from 1929 to 1932 on the site of a former Luna Park. The style is somewhere between art deco and modernism. As well as the theatre itself, the complex contained 42 flats and a coffee house. In the side wing, along the canal, there were a café, a conference room, a foyer, offices for the management and 24 private offices. After many years of abandon, the theatre has been returned to it's original purpose as the Kaaitheater funded largely by the Flemish authorities.

Last night we saw a wonderful modern dance event, Drumming by the Belgian choreograph Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's set to a powerful score for percussion by the American minimalist Steve Reich. It was dazzling indeed.
