Jebel al Akhdar

Day 9 in Oman

After leaving Misfat we headed back to Nizwa (NEEEZ-WAAA) to pop into a few bits we'd missed yesterday. I decided I was in need of a hair cut and decided to be brave and just find a random local barbers. The barber was a good laugh, asking question about where I was from, is it cold (a lot of people asked this when knowing we came from Scotland!). I decided to be one more step braver and get a shave too. Proper 'cut throat' style. He was very good and I didn't once feel like he might take inspiration from Sweeny Todd!

After lunch we headed to Jebel al Akhdar, the tallest mountain range in Oman. You are able to drive up the mountain but you do have to go through a military check point to confirm your 4x4 is suitable and you know what you are doing. It's about 21km to drive up over 1 mile above sea level with your ears popping all the way up. The views were stunning, impossible to get the scale in a picture though.

Once at the Saiq plateau we decided to explore some of the smaller villages on the mountain. The one on the blip above is Al Ayn. A beautiful village showing the roses the area is famous for which are used to make rose water. We also met some lovely local kids with big smiles and welcoming hello's!
