The Life Of Ponty Cyclops

Impact Is Immanent!

The last home game of the regular season at Sardis Road, and it was about a big a clash as you could get.

Before kick off the stats were simple. If we won we finished top of the league for a second successive year, lose and that was it, we finished fourth and out of the play offs. The Principality Premiership has been a belter this year, you could throw a blanket over the top four teams, and if Neath hadn't have fallen away in the final weeks, there would have been five teams fighting for the top spot. All of which make the stupid play off's even more ridiculous!

Having proven you are the best team over seven months, you now have to prove your the best team over eighty minutes to get a title! I loathe play off's in all sports with a passion, and thankfully in the Premiership they are scrapped next season. Ponty will be looking to right a wrong from last year when we finished sixteen points above the team that won the Championship, and who only beat us once in four games, and that was the play off final!

I can see the same thing panning out this year, Llanelli are in the play off''s again this year, and will bring regional players who have hardly played at club level all this season, and gain an advantage on the other two teams. This of course would not happen if the Regions were actually not performing so abjectly in all the competitions this year (again), and their players were still involved at the senior level.

Enough ranting ... it was a fantastic day yesterday and the Ponty spirit, which has never ever died, shone through. It was a tight tense first half, with just one Pontypridd try and conversion, making it 7-0. This was in fairness 4 more points than the whole game had in the cup round, the final score that day 3-0! Llandovery spent the first quarter of the second half, huffing and puffing, but could not break through the best defence in the league. We just kept on smashing them back, and when they got up, we smashed them back a bit more. You could see the resolve slowly drain out of the 'drovers, and Ponty just kept edging further away, and a brilliant moment of skill gave Ponty their second try, and the game was effectively over. The final score 20-0 to Ponty and job done.

I will end this entry with a link to a little bit of a sing song from the cowshed I filmed after the final whistle .. Ole Ole Ole!
