Ghost

I have been really lucky to be working in collaboration with illustrator Lee Tisdall on a series of images for a book called 'Bury as it were' from the 'Tell us another one' project.

We have worked on several individual pieces and five collaborative ones, which has been a fascinating process as our styles are so different - he creates wonderful. textured photo collages and I draw very folky style drawings and paintings.

This is the last of our collaborative pieces, in fact the final piece for the book and it's for a poem called 'Ghost'. Lee has created a beautiful collage representing the rotting hulks of sunken canal boats as a whale (one of the images from the poem) and I am working on another part which is about Mother Nature reclaiming what is rightfully hers, but not necessarily in a pretty way.

Lee's piece is so beautiful my challenge is to enhance it and not to destroy it! Fortunately we work well together (if mostly via email) and are both happy to be flexible and adaptable. My plan is to drop this drawing into the very dark, textured ground Lee has created as a one colour, grey drawing, barely visible and hopefully subtle - which makes a change for me!
