Broomielaw Bridge

While researching an article my wife was given six or seven glass lantern slides. These were used with 'magic lanterns' to project the image on to a screen. Some slides were hand tinted using transparent dyes to give the impression of full colour.

This slide shows the Broomielaw Bridge in Glasgow. The bridge was designed by Thomas Telford and opened in 1836. Unfortunately the arches were too narrow for the new larger ships that were coming up the Clyde and so in 1895 work started on a wider bridge which was opened in 1899. The new bridge is known as the Jamaica Street Bridge.
