Atlantic Pacific Meet your New Love

Atlantic/Pacific 'Meet your New Love' (Arctic Rodeo Recordings/No Sleep Records 2010)

Arctic Rodeo Recordings is a brilliant record label based in Hamburg which is run by the affable Frederic. Frederic is much like me in that he is obsessed by a certain period of music, namely mid to late 90's emo and one band in particular; Texas is the Reason.

Arctic Rodeo have released records by many post 'Reason projects including House and Parish, I Hate our Freedom, Vs Antelope, Solea and this album featuring Garrett Klahn, vocals and guitar in the Reason, and John Herguth, vocals and guitar in House and Parish.

The album is produced by Rival Schools guitarist and regular Arctic Rodeo collaborator Ian Love. It sounds great, warm and very poppy. You can hear that there are great song writers at work and you can also sense the bromance of the members seeping through the grooves.

I told Garrett that Big Gav burst into rapturous tears whilst listening to Texas is the Reason on top of a bus crossing the India/Nepal border. A story he liked so much I had to recount it to his girlfriend once he had fetched her to hear of the great greeting giant. Somehow I can't imagine this recording having the same effect on anybody.

This is nice pop. Not pop in the Last Days of April sense but in a more Simon and Garfunkel with a hint of Oasis B side way. It's the kind of stuff you put on whilst having dinner or out driving with your Mum because she thinks Death are too bass heavy.

Great guys, great record label, average record.

Peace
