An Irish Adventure

Boston & Maine roundhouse

This is the third building of the three existing "original" railroad buildings in Troy, NY.

To service steam engines the railroads built a circular building with several "service stalls." Here an engine would be "parked" and everything from a daily inspection to a complete rebuilding would be performed.

This roundhouse appears to be seven "stall" house. The newest owner has removed the front face (where the large doors would be) of the building and replaced the doors with a metal wall.

In the area in front of the building was a turntable that would rotate to deliver the steam engine to the appropriate stall. The turntable is long gone.

Enjoy!
