Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

The stately pile

Welcome to Castle Talpa!
Sadly this not in fact the ancient seat of Clan Talpa, but the rear aspect of Haddo House, a spectacular country house designed by William Adam and built between 1731 and 1736. The home of the Gordon family for over 400 years the house is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland and is open to the public. The surrounding country park is operated by Aberdeenshire Council, while the extremely large Haddo Estate, of which the country park forms only a small part, continues to function as a farming and sporting estate.
