Wonham Waters.......Day 1

Well here we are at last, a week in a cabin in the woods..........reminds me of so many horror films........!! Group of people go for a quiet break in a cabin in a secluded location, and one by one they're bumped off..............!!
Well maybe in the good old US of A, but hopefully not here in wet old Devon........

The cabins name is Wonham Waters, and it stands alone in Highleigh Quarry.
The quarry was closed down around 25 years ago, after one of the quarrymen used too much explosive, the resulting blast sent stone and rock hurtling towards the passing A396, and killed a passing motorist............!!!!

The owner of the cabin has a very very large house located on top of the quarry, with views to die for of the surrounding countryside.

Our cabin is a two bedroom property, and is around 800 meters away from the owners property. The nearest hamlet or small village is around a mile away, with the nearest small town, Bampton, being three and a half miles away.

There's no mobile or internet connection, and no land line.

Total seclusion.... (Back blipping for the week)......

For those interested, the OS number is :- SS 922 228

Updates and piccys to follow........

larger cabin..........

Addendum :-

I did the usual route planning online, using the AA web-site, the journey down to Bampton from Gosport would take around three hours. Checking the route on-line against my Garmin Sat-Nav, both routes take you through Salisbury. For those of you who haven't tried to get through Salisbury on a saturday, it's a nightmare. Not so much the inner city, the ring road there is fine. It's the out of town shopping areas which straddle the main route to the South West.

To avoid the jams we set off to Bampton at 7am, we had a superb trip. No jams or queues in 138miles of driving. Even after a couple of stops along the way for coffee or tea, we arrived on the main road by the cabin at 10-30am. We filled the following 4 hours with a short drive and walk around Wimbleball Lake, followed by lunch in The Stag Inn at Rackenford. Very good food, reasonably priced, served by a Landlord and staff who couldn't have been more friendly or more helpful.
If you're in the area, it's well worth a visit, tel, 01884 881730 postcode for your satnav, EX16 8DT
