Jigokudani or Hell Valley is about a 35 minute drive from Nagano city and difficult to access, especially in Winter, when a 2km windy walk in the mountains is covered in snow. By the end of this journey you will find an onsen (hot spring) full of macaque monkeys bathing and generally going wild. It's like an open area with no cages. It's crazy. It's about 500 yen entry.
