What's It Called?

At this time last year when we were laying out a garden after the old house was demolished, an elderly friend called by to give us some plants that he had taken from his own garden.

We bought some plants ourselves and others were given to us by neighbours. It has been interesting seeing the new growth as the plants prepare for their first full year with us. While Mrs B can remember most of the plant names, the one blipped today escapes both of us. The flower is a lovely golf ball shape with little yellow sub flowers appearing where the dimples would be. Maybe someone out there in Blip World can identify it for us?

The midges appeared in numbers today for the first time this year. They were awful and I am just hoping the mild Winter has not swelled their ranks.

Police called at the house tonight to ask if we had seen anything falling out of the sky about 4 o'clock this afternoon. Someone had apparently seen something resembling a microlight falling to earth on the hill behind the village! The police helicopter had been out for a look but found nothing. Anyway, we saw or heard nothing, including the helicopter!

PS - Well done and thanks to RomaWhaup who correctly identified yesterday's blip as a Whimbrel. I listened to its call on the RSPB site and there is no mistaking it!
