Barman's Blips

Owzat! Owlet :)

Ok so as the sun came out today and I had an hour or so to spare I decided to have a walk around my local fishing lake.

The Lakes are the property of the local angling association, who have a policy of not interfering with the natural development of the surrounding woodlands, except where a safety issue is present. Due to this policy the woodlands are in a reasonably natural state with trees allowed to rot down where they fall. The cover is also quite thick in places, with a well developed under-story.

The nature of the habitat means that it is quite well occupied with all types of wildlife, Birds and mammals abound, and though these are only the more common species, the natural habitat means that they may be seen as they were in the past.

Whilst walking around the lake I got chatting to one of the club officials who, asked the question, seeing the camera around my neck, "oh Have you come to photograph our Owls".

I was then taken to an area of the lakeside where the owls were known to roost during daylight, and was presented with an adult Tawny owl a short distance into the woodland. A more careful scan with binoculars presented four Young fledglings, two of which are today's Blip.
