Loving the High Line

I just can't put into words how much I totally loved the High Line here in NYC.

It is the old freight line which used to run goods in and out of the Meatpacking District on the lower west side of Manhattan - which sits about four storey's high, curving around buildings and over streets and traffic for about 30 blocks.

It was abandoned, and nature took over. And then a couple of people had the amazing idea of turning it into a public garden in the sky. It is stunning - simple but effective and beautiful planting, all designed to attract a myriad of butterflies and birds. Odd pieces of land art, and loads of places to just sit and take it all in.

We walked the whole length of it, and delighted to say they are now fundraising (it's a charity) to extend it even further and take over the next few blocks of track. It had led to the entire area being regenerated, which is incredible. A fascinating part of the city.

An absolute must-see - and you can find more info http://www.thehighline.org/
