Commemorating

The Royal Hotel in Campbeltown was re-opened last night, with fireworks, a dinner and much celebration. Today several thousand people are expected to pass through its doors during the "open day" to look at something most never expected to happen.

The hotel is a prominent landmark in Campbeltown, and it's heyday was recorded by the MacGrory Brothers, photographers in Campbeltown at the turn of the century. Their pictures of the town and the surrounding area feature prominantly on the walls of the beautifully refurbished rooms, and in the Ugadale Hotel at Macrihanish was has also been brought back to life by Southworth Development who have created the Macrihanish Dunes resort of which the Royal is now a part.

Fititng then that the local Springbank Distillery should have used a MacGrory photograph of the Royal Hotel on the label of this commorative bottling, whcih I blipped in the Ugadale this morning.
