Techno-zombies. Time For A Rant

Around half of the people I see on the streets these days appear to be meandering around, heads bowed, oblivious to the outside world and with a strange distant expression on their faces. I'm not talking about junkies or jakeys here, I'm talking about what I call "techno-zombies". These strange automaton like entities are all engrossed in their mobile phones, most of them texting as they walk and only a few of them actually having real-life voice conversations.

I've seen some of them cross busy roads whilst an oncoming car, driven by someone who themselves is frantically texting into a phone, heads towards them. Neither of them appear or indeed need to look up because these zombies have very quickly evolved a form of sixth sense that helps them avoid almost any obstacle or danger to life. Darwin could never have predicted this. I reckon that in a few years many of us will have evolved our own wired in GPS system that includes an annoying, internal and reprimanding sub-conscious voice telling us to "take the next turning on the right" or "do a u-turn". Only then will we be completely free to use our mobile devices free from the tyranny of getting from A to B unharmed.

Other "users", like the lady pictured above, are huddled into shady corners or dark doorways frantically trying to distinguish the text on their not so smart in daylight smartphones. These people are everywhere! I'm seriously thinking of devoting a blip week to these strange mutants who stalk the land. What do you think?
