Full Moon Rising over Lake Vänern

backblip...

Time for goodbyes. Ingrid went to pre-school and John, Barbara and baby Astrid took us to Arlanda to pick up our rental car. This time Sixt let us off the lot with a BMW - no oh but you're going to Poland - but of course we are not going to Poland, are heading for Göteborg via Vänersborg and Henån.

So Mr. L. got to be king of the road for the day as we zipped along. We gave cheesy grins to all the speed cameras (although I don't think we tripped any, thanks to the generous Swedish early warning signs).

Potato pancakes for lunch at an excellent roadside service station. They are called raggmunk - we wrote it down so we can find a recipe when we get home.

We rolled into Vänersborg around 4pm, took a nap, then went out for dinner and a walk along the shore of Lake Vänern - the larger of Sweden's two great lakes (the other is Vättern). The town was very quiet - it's late in the season - also Vänersborg took a heavy blow when the nearby Saab plant closed in 2011. A beautiful evening though - very still. We watched the full moon rise slowly over the treetops and then later, shimmering over the water of the lake.

A lovely spot for a blip, don't you think? Also a time-out for us after the hustle and bustle of the last few days.

Tomorrow there will be some more hellos as we travel on to Henån to meet Marianne and Per.
