Dunoon Pier

This iconic pier in Dunoon is under threat. There has been a pier at Dunoon since 1835. The pier was enlarged and a new waiting room constructed in 1867 to cater for the growth of paddle-steamer traffic and this was further improved with a larger 400 foot jetty in 1881. The pier was again rebuilt in 1895 resulting in the two-birth structure broadly as it exists today. It seems inconceivable that demolition of this very fine structure would be considered. Many resort towns throughout Britain would dearly love to have such an obvious tourist attraction and the National Piers Society would be horrified were such a handsome, iconic pier to be lost.
