Another Languedoc year...

Ephémère

This is my current favourite wine. It's a white assemblage of roussane and vermentino, blended in the field. That is to say that the vines of each variety grow side by side and the winemaker picks them all at the same time. As a result the wine is different each year, according to how much of each there is. They call it Ephémère as it won't be repeated. Next year it will have a different blend and a different name.

In fact it is so ephemeral that we bought the last four and a half cases. It's a bit pointless me recommending it to you since there's none left! However, Domaine de l'Horte in Magalas should be credited with producing such a beauty.

One of the many treats of living in the world's largest vineyard is that wonderful wines are right here on our doorstep. There are thousands of small makers, alongside all the much larger domaines, who make the most stunning wines - at an excellent price.

Chink - santé.
