Shortest day of the year

This picture was taken at 3pm when the sun had already descended close to the treeline.

There were some really ominous clouds in the horizon, and we saw a huge flock of seabirds that had gathered into the middle of the lake. It all seems to predict a snowstorm for tomorrow.
