Statue for obstetrics pioneer

This bronze outside the Lanark Medical Centre honours the work of locally born and unfortunately named William Smellie, who it says revolutionsed the practice of obstetrics in the 18th Century.

I see this whenever I go for a swim. We've had lots of localised flooding due to heavy rain overnight, so it seemed the perfect day for a dip.
