More from Knockhundred Row

This is Midhurst Old Library in the old part of Midhurst at the top of Knockhundred Row, looking down Church Hill towards the church and market square.  The library moved this year to the new Leisure Centre by the South Pond, and this building is currently between uses. There is a movement to try to house the museum here, which would be the ideal use for such an historic building.
Back in the day it consisted of two cottages and a sweet shop, and originally was five cottages probably dating from 1500. The door to one of the cottages can be seen behind these outside stairs.  By 1921 it was used for the Working Mens Club, which was eventually closed down following a breach of the licensing laws, selling alcohol to non-members who were in fact two police officers!
