Flooded wood

This bit of woodland reminded me today of C.S. Lewis's prequel to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Magician's Nephew, which begins in a wood full of pools. After 36 hours of non-stop rain, the road we were on was flooded as was the wood next to it, though when we returned an hour later we were amazed to see that a good 3' of road had reappeared as the water seeped away. It's amazing what a few dry hours can do - though I have a feeling the rain will return tonight.
