Milk Pickup

For once the sun is shinning, and although there is still a cool wind and a bit of snow on the mountains, it is nice to have the sun out.

This picture shows the Fonterra tanker leaving our cowshed after picking up our vat load of milk. This tanker was from Takaka, in Golden Bay, about two and a half hours from where I live. Fonterra has a factory there, and all milk that goes there is turned into milk powder.

Sometimes we have tankers arrive from Christchurch, and our milk is supplied to Meadowfresh, where it is processed and put into plastic (or cardboard) containers and used for town milk supply.

Very shortly the cows will be dried off for winter, so we will only be seeing the tankers visit our farm a few more times this month. They won't come back again until the cows start calving in August.
