Herbert (The Tug)

A very different blip tonight from me!!

Aidan our son is a shipping agent at the Port of Townsville.....he has contacts and put them to good use this afternoon, taking Doug, me and himself on one of the two tugs used to bring this big monster into Port.

The Ship is called the Paganino, bringing cars from Japan.  It berthed at 7 pm tonight and will unload vehicles and leave at midnight for Brisbane.
Stats (Aidan said someone may be interested) 183 metres long, dead weight over 11,000 tons. Build in 2009.- no windows, just a huge blank white wall, never seen anything like it before.
It was so interesting to chug  way out in the channel and get roped to the ship, then bring it in and once in harbour it was no mean feat to turn it in a small space and get it tied up.  The blip shows the side and height with the other tug gently pushing as we were also. Looking into the setting sun and through the window do not give a very good picture.  Weren't we lucky :)

Other than that, we have swum, went to the mall and then out for lunch down onThe Strand, an area right on the beach with many cafes, accommodation and no shops (bonus).

Ella says thanks for all those lovely comments she received.
